iOS App Review: Say Hello to the New appSIZED Report Card!

Appsized report card

It took a lot of thinking, but finally, appSIZED now has an official review rating system to make app shopping a little easier for you, dear reader.

The appSIZED report card summarizes what an app is all about and if you should get it. The criteria is pretty easy to understand, and I believe it covers what we all look for in an app.

You’ll see how the report card works in upcoming app reviews, so please stay tuned!

Luxor 2 HD on appSIZED

There aren’t enough marble shooter games for the iPhone and iPad, but fortunately we have Luxor 2 HD to make up for the quality, if not the quantity. Amid the proliferation of Zuma wannabes, this classic PC port stands on its own shiny merits.

iOS App Review: Farm Frenzy 2 – Pizza Party HD

Farm frenzy 2 pizza party HD on appSIZED

The unique time management gameplay of the Farm Frenzy series is back in a bigger, sleeker and better package. Fans of the series will feel at home; newcomers can jump right in and enjoy themselves. Farm Frenzy 2 – Pizza Party HD is highly recommended for casual gamers!

I’m a veteran of the Farm Frenzy (FF) series – then and now, and still hooked on the classic FF time management formula.

Farm Frenzy is not called Farm Frenzy for nothing. This hugely popular time management (TM) game series for the PC is all about farm production but with unique game mechanics. You have at your disposal animals and machines to produce “building blocks” of various farm products, and in this case, ingredients for your very own pizzerias! However, you don’t just produce goods and combine them to create more complex products, you also have to contend with wandering bears that drive away your animals.

iOS App Review: A Verse A Day – Start of a Beautiful Day

Sale Alert! Fishdom: Spooky Splash, Notability and Contacts to VCard

Fishdom spooky splash notability and contacts to vCard

Who says it’s just another Monday? Today is a great day for app shopping!

1) Fishdom: Spooky Splash Premium (iPad) – The Fishdom series is an addictive combination of match three with simulation elements and Spooky Splash is no exception. Build the fish tank of your dreams and prepare for aquarium domination! The paid/premium version is free for a limited time but take note, I’m being asked to shell out the regular price for the full version.

2) Notability (iPad) – This awesome notetaking app is back on my top apps list thanks to a free massive update – themes, paper backgrounds, full-blown handwriting function and PDF import and annotation support. A note taking app that is a powerful mini-word processor on its own, the $0.99 is a steal!

3) Contacts to VCard (iPhone) – With zero user ratings on the app store, and the price tag of free, I figured downloading the app would be a risk-free endeavor. The app does what it says, which is to convert your contacts list to VCF and vice versa, and does it fast.

If I missed anything, please feel free to leave a message in the comments section. In the meantime, h(app)y shopping!

Massive Sale Alert! PhatPad, Hector series, Aralon and Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor

Phat Pad Hector Spider the Secret of Bryce Manor Aralon

Gameloft’s games are on sale for only $0.99 this weekend, so make sure you check them out as well.

1) PhatPad for iPad (iPad) – What makes PhatPad stand out is its sophisticated handwriting to text digital conversion technology which is pretty awesome. This notes app is only $0.99 until October 18 and comes with a massive update. Don’t forget to grab it if you’re in search of the perfect note taking app for school or work.

2) Hector Ep1: We Negotiate With Terrorists (iPad) – Alll the episodes are down to $2.99. Hector is lewd, crude and loads of fun. Coming from Telltale Games, expect nothing less than the best.

3) Aralon: Sword and Shadow (Universal) – This epic of an action adventure RPG game is on sale for only $0.99 – so show your iPhone/iPod and iPad some love.

4) Spider: Bryce Manor HD (iPad) – This critically acclaimed and award winning game is beloved by gamers, and was declared by Touch Arcade as iPhone Game of the Year in 2009. The gorgeous iPad version is finally on sale for just $1.99.

It was hard to pick just four games and apps, so if you have suggestions, please leave a message.

Happy (app) shopping!

iOS App Review: Amelie’s Cafe HD

Amelie’s Cafe HD is an attractive but uninspired time management (TM) game that falls short of realizing its potential.

The secret to a good time management game is how it conceptualizes its core gameplay. The likes of Diner Dash practically invented the genre and since then, there have been many ways to improve and innovate on the time management formula. Let’s see how Amelie’s Cafe HD stacks up.
